Transmedia series Road to Revolution will follow three Portuguese journalists, Tiago Carrasco, Joầo Henriques and Joầo Fontes, as they embark on a journey through the Mahgreb and Middle Eastern region following the path of a revolution, latterly known as the Arab Spring, which has swept across that part of the world.

The team will travel more than 9000 miles by land and sea across 10 countries – Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco – to find out more about the lifestyle, culture and beliefs of the local people and learn about the causes of discontentment that led to ethnic and religious conflicts. The documentary looks to compare revolutions in the Arab world with uprisings in the West, from the counterculture movement of the 1960s through to the Occupy protest movement currently taking root in cities across the US and Europe.

Produced by beActive with the support of Portuguese weekly Sol and retail chain Sportzone, Road to Revolution will initially consist of a series of online video blogs posted on an official website as well as Sol’s site. Two video blogs will be uploaded every week over 10 to 12 weeks starting at the end of January. Further updates will be made available in real time on Facebook and Twitter. beActive will then edit the blogs into a feature-length documentary, which will be available for film release and television broadcast by the end of the year.
